2016 Literacy Champions

Gerri Guyote

Assistant Director of the Peabody Institute Library in Peabody, Massachusetts

Gerri Guyote is a 2016 Mass Literacy Champion, and she is the Assistant Director of the Peabody Institute Library in Peabody, Massachusetts. She created an English Conversation Circles program at her library where trained volunteers lead adults in practicing English conversation skills.

With her Mass Literacy Champions grant, Guyote will expand the library’s current conversation circles program to serve ESOL parents and their young children. These conversation circles will focus on family literacy. The goal is to strengthen the English skills of the adults, while also supporting the early literacy needs of their children ages 0-6.
