The picture book brings science, art and story together in an innovative story for expectant parents and parents of babies and young children. It is also designed for parents learning English, and it explains how and why families should read together.
Jean has worked as the Early Literacy Research Specialist at the national office of Reach Out and Read, an international pediatric early literacy intervention, and as a literacy consultant for the Massachusetts Family Literacy Consortium at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She has also taught at Lesley University’s graduate program in language and literacy.
She has worked testing children for reading and other learning difficulties at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School and served as an educational advocate with Boston Center for Homeless Families. She produced the short film Raising Readers that helps get children ready to read, and worked as the lead author on the handbook Promoting Social and Emotional Health through Early Literacy.
Jean is translating Make Time for Reading into Spanish to make it available for Spanish speaking families.
